VOLLEYFUSION Grass Volleyball Tournaments

WHO:

VolleyFusion is open to both boys and girls ages 8-18+ who have had previous competitive Club Volleyball experience. Teams can compete with 4 athletes on the court, but may be formed with 6 competitors - allowing for subs and families who may take time over the summer for vacations.

  • Teams can be a combination of ages ranging from 8 year olds but including athletes who may be 18+.
  • Teams must compete in a division of the oldest athlete on the team.

WHAT:

VolleyFusion is a modified form of 4vs4/2vs2 played on grass volleyball courts.

  • Teams of 4 can be made up of Boys, Girls, or a combination of Boys & Girls.
  • Courts will be 8m by 8m(Beach court sized) for 2v2, and 9m by 9m for 4v4 with an attack line at 3m(like indoors).
  • Games will be scored like indoors with a point awarded at the end of every serve.
  • Matches will be 2 sets to 21 capped at 23.
  • Teams will switch sides after each set.
  • No antennae will be used. All balls played over the net are in play as long as the ball passes between the poles and lands within the court boundaries.
  • The net height will be set at 2.24m(the same as indoor women’s net height).

What makes it FUSION:

Teams can be made up of 4 girls, 4 boys, or any combination of 4 boys & girls.

GIRLS

  • Girls are able to play “regular” volleyball
  • Girls are permitted to attack in front of the attack line if desired.
  • Girls are permitted to “Block” Girls or Boys.

BOYS

  • Boys must play “Reverse” rules volleyball.
  • Boys are only permitted to attack from behind the attack line. They are permitted to jump from behind the attack line, contact the ball while in the air, and then land in the front court.
  • **U13Boys and under are allowed to attack and block in front of the attack line as if playing the girls rules due to net height.
  • A ball played across the net by a boy must travel at least one attack line.
    • A boy playing a ball from behind their own attack line could place the ball in the front or back court of the opposing team.
    • A boy playing a ball from in front of their own attack line must propel the ball in an upward trajectory AND the ball must travel beyond the opposing team's attack line before landing.
  • Boys are only permitted to “Block” Boys. Boys are NOT permitted to “BLOCK” girls, this includes any attempt to make contact with a ball “ABOVE the height of the net '' that is sent over the net by an opposing girl regardless of how the ball is sent over the net.
  • Boys are able to block boys at any time.
  • If a Boy plays a ball in front of the attack line, the trajectory of the ball must be UPWARDS first prior to descending - AND - must travel past the opponents attack line to be considered a legal hit.

TYPES OF LEGAL CONTACTS

  • Attacks by either boy or girl must be a clean contact.
  • Balls are NOT permitted to be played across the net to the opposing team with the use the fingertips of only one hand(TIP)

    • A Block is a simple DEFLECTION/REBOUND of the ball. The ball may not be held or guided in any manner.
    • A Block is NOT counted as a touch for the defending team.
